PhD in Optical Based Rheological Approaches



Swansea University is a public research university located in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom. It is the third largest university in Wales in terms of number of students. It currently offers about 330 undergraduate courses and 120 post-graduate courses.

In 2021, the Swansea PhD programmes is offered to international students who are interested to continue their studies in PhD level. The PhD programme is in Medical Engineering with the programme of EPSRC PhD Scholarships with topic "Optical Based Rheological Approaches for The Characterisations of Blood Clots. The aim of the project is to develop novel technological solutions that overcome some limitations of conventional rheological approaches through advances in the field of optical rheometry. The research will be predominantly carried out at the Rheology laboratory at the Centre for NanoHealth (CNH), Institute of Life Science 2.

Scholarships Eligibility

Candidates must have a minimum of a first, Upper Second Class Honours in Medical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nanomedicine or Physics. Candidates should have a background knowledge of the underlying principles of rheology, and preferably (but not essential) some evidence of exposure to a medical related subject. Experience in using MATLAB (or similar platforms) is highly desirable.

English language requirements: If applicable - IELTS 6.5 overall (with at least 5.5 in each individual component) or Swansea recognised equivalent. Details on the Swansea University English Language entry policy can be found here.

This scholarship is open to candidates of any nationality.

Scholarship Benefits

This scholarship provides the cost of UK tuition fees and an annual stipend of 15,609 pounds. International candidates will be required to cover the difference between UK and International tuition fees. Additional funds up to 3,000 pounds will also be available for research expenses.
