PhD Student Position in Photophysical Studies of Photon up- and down Conversion

Project Description


The research group of Bo Albinsson, were this PhD will be stationed has a long-standing interest in researching and understanding the principles that govern the development of novel solar energy technologies. This PhD project is related to an ongoing program on photon up- and down conversion with financial support from the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Research Council.

Major Responsibilities

The project is focused on the investigation of molecular systems capable of up- or down conversion of light, that, upon incorporation into solar energy technologies can increase the conversion efficiency. Molecular systems, sometimes integrated with nanoparticles (quantum dots), are synthesized within the framework of a cross-disciplinary collaboration and will be studied with a range of spectroscopic techniques. In particular, pulsed laser based ultras-fast femtosecond transient absorption and emission techniques will be used and developed within the project. Your major responsibilities as PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to maximum of 20 percent of working hours.

Qualifications

We are looking for a newly graduated MSc in Chemistry, Physics or equivalent who wants to embark on a challenging and rewarding research journey ending with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. The successful candidate should be a highly motivated, quality conscious individual with a MSc degree (or equivalent) in fields related to chemistry or physics, preferably with experience in optical spectroscopy and/or laser techniques. You should find it motivating working both alone and in close collaboration with others. As Chalmers is an highly international environment you must have excellent English skills, both orally and written. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract Terms

William Patterson University Institutional Scholarships for Incoming Students

Fall Freshmen Awards


Generous merit-based scholarship funds are awarded to incoming freshmen (students applying to William Paterson University directly from high school) based on various criteria. All admitted freshmen are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships and no separate application is required. Award recipients are notified in writing within two weeks of their admission to the University. Eligible students who complete the admission application process after the published deadline will only be considered for a scholarship award if funds are available.

Trustee Scholarships

Wiliam Paterson University is test-optional for Fall Trustee Scholarships. This scholarship ranges from USD5,000 to USD9,000 per year and are designed to recognize high-achieving high school students for their academic accomplishments. Award criteria and amounts are:
  • SAT Score: 1130-1600
  • ACT Score 23-36
  • 4.0+ GPA will receive USD9,000, 3.75-3.99 GPA will receive USD8,000 and 3.5-3.74 GPA will receive USD7,000
Trustee Scholarships are automatically awarded on a first-come first served basis to students who have been admitted to the University; no separate application is required. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years (eight consecutive semesters of full-time study during the fall and spring semesters).

University Honors College Scholarships

All freshmen who are admitted to and enroll in the William Paterson University Honors College receive a USD5,000 per year merit scholarship. This award is in addition to any other institutional scholarship.

Freshman are considered for Honors College Admission based on three of the five areas below. Where appropriate, year prior average statistics of enrolling Honors College Students are noted. All applicants are required to submit high school transcripts and test scores, but may emphasize other areas.

  • Grade Point Average - The average unweighted high school GPA is 3.60 (middle 50% range of 3.47 to 3.82)
  • Test Scores – The average test scores are 1233 SAT score (middle 50% range of 1180 to 1290) or an ACT score of 27 (middle 50% range of 27-28)
  • Curriculum – Most accepted students have taken multiple honors-, dual-enrollment college-, Advanced Placement- and International Baccalaureate-level courses in their high school careers
  • Academic awards or honors received and extracurricular interests and activities
  • Essay quality and content

Students who wish to be considered for this scholarship must complete and submit the online University Honors College Application, which includes a short essay. University Honors College Scholarships are renewable for up to four years (eight consecutive semesters of full-time study during the fall and spring semesters). Recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 and membership in the University Honors College. This scholarship does not apply to Winter Session or Summer Session courses. Academic performance is reviewed at the conclusion of each semester. Students who do not satisfy the criteria for the renewal of their scholarship award are notified in writing.

Music and Art Talent Trustee Scholarships

All high school seniors admitted to degree programs in Music and BFA Art are considered for a limited number of Trustee Talent Scholarships.  Students who demonstrate an exceptional level of potential creative talent in their music audition or portfolio review are automatically considered for this scholarship. Scholarship recipients are selected by the faculty in the Music and Art departments. No special application is required. The priority application deadline for this scholarship is February 1 for the Fall Semester and November 1 for the Spring Semester.

Trustee Talent Scholarships for freshman are renewable for up to four years (eight consecutive semesters of full-time study during the fall and spring semesters).  This scholarship does not apply to Winter Session or Summer Session courses. Academic performance is reviewed at the conclusion of each semester. Students who do not satisfy the criteria for the renewal of their scholarship award are notified in writing.

GMIT Scholarships for Non-EU Students in Ireland

Galway-Mayo Institute Scholarship



The Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) was an institute of technology, located in Galway, Ireland. In April 2022, it was formally dissolved, and its functions were transferred to Atlantic Technological University (ATU).

The GMIT offers international students who are interested to continue their studies in undergraduate, or postgraduate programmes. These scholarships are available for Non-EU students in term of tuition fee.

Scholarships Eligibility

  • Eligibility Countries: Students of all non-EU countries are eligible to apply
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Undergraduate or postgraduate programs at GMIT can be applied for
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/ given criteria:
    • Applicants must be non-EU country nationals accepted in any undergraduate or postgraduate programme at GMIT
    • Supporting documents such as:

Scholarship Benefits

  • Postgraduate Programmes - 12,000 euros
If you are a Non-EU student thinking of applying to study in GMIT then you may qualify for a GMIT scholarship in recognition of your English language attainment, your country of origin, or both. These bursaries are reviewed annually.

The bursaries are also offered in form of English Language Attainment Scholarships with 15% of reduction. Please note we will accept the equivalent of the IELTS score listed, in other English Language Assessments for the purpose of gaining a scholarship.

The GMIT also offers scholarships to Non-EU students depending upon their country of origin. They are:
  • Foundation, undergraduate, or postgraduate (countries with a GDP of $5,000, or less) would have bursary value for 15%
  • Foundation, undergraduate, or postgraduate (countries with a GDP of less than $20,000 per year but greater than $5,000) would have bursary value for 10%
  • Foundation, undergraduate, or postgraduate (countries with a GPD of greater than $20,000 per year) would have bursary value for 5%

How to Apply

Students are required to apply to the programme of their choice via the application portal of the university. Non-EU applicants will automatically be considered. Applicants are required to have a high school of education and a bachelor's degree to be admitted at GMIT and also fulfill the entry requirements of the university.

International Women in Maritime Engineering Scholarship at University of Tasmania

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university, primarily located in Tasmania, Australia. Founded in 1890, it is Australia's fourth oldest university.

Scholarships Eligibility

Scholarships are available for international female students who apply to study in the Bachelor of Maritime Engineering (Specialisation) (Honours) (24V1), majoring in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or Marine and Offshore Engineering on the Launceston campus, and who meet the scholarship eligibility requirements.

Scholarships are also available for international female students who are eligible to commence the Master of Engineering (Maritime Design) (27B1) on the Launceston campus.

To be eligible, students must:

Scholarships Benefits

Undergraduate students: Recipients will receive one payment of AUS$4,000 each semester (AUS$8,000 in total), to be used towards educational costs - this will be paid directly into the student's Australian bank account shortly after census date each semester.

Postgraduate students: Recipients will receive one payment of AUS$4,000 to be used towards educational costs - this will be paid directly into the student's Australian bank account shortly after census date of first semester.

Glasgow School of Arts Scholarships for International Students 2022

Glasgow School of Arts Scholarships (GSA Scholarships)



The Glasgow School of Arts (GSA) is a higher education art school offering undergraduate degrees; post-graduate awards (both taught and research-led) and PhDs in architecture, fine art and design based in Glasgow, Scotland.

The GSA has a number of scholarships available to new students who are starting the Undergraduate or Postgraduate study in academic session 2022/2023. If you are a new entrant to GSA and have been given a Conditional or Unconditional offer to study, you are eligible to apply to our scholarship programme.

Some of our scholarships offer a contribution towards your tuition fees and others provide a maintenance grant to assist with your living costs while you study at the GSA. The value of scholarship does not reflect the full cost of undertaking full-time study an unless otherwise stated, the scholarships are for one academic year only.

Scholarships Eligibility

The applicants are both the UK and international students. The program is available to new students. International Scholarship Program at Gavle University College in Sweden

University of Gavle or Hogskolan i Gavle in Swedish, is a university college located in Gavle, Sweden. It uses the name "University of Gavle" in English although it is officially a University College. The university's postgraduate education at the Ph.D level is through the KTH research school, a collaboration between the university and the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm.

The University of Gavle offers scholarships to high performing international students who are required to pay tuition fees. The application offers a reduction of 75% of the tuition fee. The application for scholarship for programmes starting in the Spring semester 2022 will be closed on 17 September 2021.
