This PhD project focuses on developing new synthetic approaches for activating prodrugs. The research will explore catalytic methods for making precise modifications to drug molecules so that they can be converted into active therapeutic compounds.
The project combines organic synthesis, catalysis and method development with the broader goal of expanding the synthetic toolbox for next-generation prodrug strategies.
Modelling Non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Agriculture
This doctoral project investigates ways to improve monitoring, reporting and verification systems for agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.
The research covers agricultural practices including animal husbandry, manure management, livestock feeding and grazing, soil tillage, fertiliser use and liming across different environmental and farming systems.
Local Food Web Dynamics within Offshore Wind Farms
This PhD forms part of the North Sea POWER project, which examines the ecological consequences of expanding offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
The researcher will investigate how fouling communities within offshore wind farms influence local food-web dynamics and carbon cycling. The project involves collaboration across academic, conservation and energy-sector partners.
Modelling Impacts of Agricultural Practices on Soil Ecosystem Services
This four-year PhD project examines how agricultural management practices influence soil ecosystem services across Europe.
The research will contribute to improved soil-health assessment frameworks and develop site-specific recommendations for sustainable agricultural systems. The project involves an international research partnership with 17 organisations.
Landscape Governance
This PhD position is part of the DECISION project, which examines how public and private actors can work together to support a resilient and nature-inclusive future for Dutch dairy landscapes.
The research will explore governance, planning, coordinated action and interactions among farmers, companies, financial organisations, service providers and local communities.
Leveraging Adolescent Agency to Improve Food Environments at School
This research project investigates how adolescent decision-making and agency can be incorporated into school-based nutrition interventions in Indonesia.
The research focuses on food preferences, dietary intake and purchasing behaviour, combining approaches from development economics, behavioural economics and public health nutrition. The PhD candidate will conduct field experiments in Indonesia as part of an international multidisciplinary team.
Smart Sensors for Health Monitoring via Breath Gas Analysis
This Engineering Doctorate project explores the development of smart breath-sensing technology capable of detecting information related to human health through trace gases in exhaled breath.
The candidate will design a system and develop an initial feasibility prototype using photonic sensing technologies and advanced data-analysis methods.
Nature-Inclusive Dairy Transitions and Biodiversity Recovery
This PhD is part of the DECISION project, which aims to support the transition toward more nature-inclusive dairy systems in the Netherlands.
The research will examine the different values stakeholders place on biodiversity and ecosystem services, explore farm typologies, and contribute to the design of scenarios and interventions that can support biodiversity recovery and nature-inclusive transitions.
Impact of Reward Schemes for Biodiversity in Dutch Dairy Farming Systems
This doctoral research examines existing and potential reward schemes designed to encourage biodiversity measures in Dutch dairy farming.
The project will investigate farmers' preferences, negotiation possibilities, effects on farm income and risks associated with biodiversity measures. The research is part of the DECISION project and focuses on the Alblasserwaard region.
Understanding and Decreasing N₂O Emissions in Deammonification
This PhD project is part of the UNITED research programme and investigates nitrous oxide emissions generated by deammonification reactors used in wastewater treatment.
The researcher will conduct bioreactor experiments, analyse N₂O-production data from full-scale reactors, investigate the effects of electron donor and acceptor availability, and develop potential mitigation strategies.
The project combines fundamental research with applied process engineering and involves collaboration with stakeholders from the water sector.
