The super healthy food, Tomato prevents gastric cancer

Tomato could prevent gastric cancer
It has not been long time ago, people considered tomato as one of the poisonous food. At that time, people did not want to eat tomato because of the ancient story. However, the history of tomato changed since we have been researching about it. Our knowledge about tomato has been increasing. Is our knowledge enough to understand tomato?

The story of poisonous tomato was happening on Colonial Times in America.  Tomato was founded probably from Peru and this was brought by the Spanish when colonializing the Central and South America. The reason why tomato had bad reputation lies on its name and appearances because the shape of tomato resembles to what we called of deadly nightshade.

Speaking about tomato, it actually resembles with eggplant and potato. These three ingredients have been utilizing for worldwide cuisine. But, the most interesting fact lies on the benevolence to health system. Tomato is unbelievably super healthy for people. What makes it is so health?

The chemical compound in tomatoes could protect our body from getting cancer. A study reported Pectic Polysaccharide (PP) contained from Sour Raw tomato was found to be bioavailable in preventing the growth of gastric cancer cell [1]. The presence of anthocyanins which was obtained from tomato was able to extend the life span of mice infected by cancer-susceptible Trp53 [2]. Frequent consumption of tomato is able to prevent gastric cancer because of the presence of lycopenic compounds that is contained within the tomato [3].

In the meantime, tomatoes contain high levels of vitamin A, K and C which can very beneficial for human body. The vitamin A is classified as a group of fat soluble retinoids which can support the immune system including cellular function, vision, reproduction and cellular communication. While vitamin K is responsible to prevent cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis in body. And the last which is vitamin C is important in physiological antioxidant and several studies showed that Vitamin C is able to regenerate other antioxidants such as alpha-tocopherol.

To conclude, despite of its old reputation, tomato currently has excellent reputation not only for cooking dish but also on the way of people living. Consuming tomatoes frequently could decrease the risk of getting cancers including gastric cancer while it also stops ageing in particular of our eyes, bones and nervous system throughout the vitamins that support our body. So, let’s consume tomatoes frequently now.
