#01 — PhD in Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence – HCC

PhD Positions in Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence – HCC

This project develops methods to detect changes in users’ cognitive load and designs digital interventions that support cognitive autonomy in human-AI interaction. Two PhD positions bring complementary research perspectives.

The first position investigates how everyday digital interactions, including typing and mouse movements, can reveal changes in the mental demands experienced during a task. It is particularly suitable for candidates with a strong technical background and an interest in human behaviour and cognition.

The second position focuses on developing and evaluating cognitive-support interventions. The researcher will work with stakeholders to co-design techniques and assess their impact through controlled studies. This position is suited to candidates with strong user-centred research and mixed-method evaluation experience.

Both positions include an opportunity for a research stay abroad, while allowing the successful candidates to further shape the project according to their interests.

Deadline: 13 November 2026
#02 — PhD in Health System Innovation

One or More PhD Positions in Health System Innovation

This PhD project focuses on health system innovation, particularly the development of cross-sectoral healthcare pathways for people living with chronic diseases.

The research aims to create more coherent, person-centred and sustainable support by encouraging collaboration between hospitals, general practitioners, municipalities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The PhD student will contribute to prototype development, feasibility testing and evaluation of innovative care pathways. Responsibilities include data collection, analysis and dissemination of research findings.

The position is affiliated with the Section of Public Health at the Department of Health Science and Technology. The PhD is a three-year position beginning January 1, 2027.

Deadline: 1 November 2026
#03 — PhD in Legal Sociology Research

PhD Scholarship in a Legal Sociology Research Project

The PhD fellow will undertake an independent scientific research project at the Department of Law over a three-year period with the goal of completing a PhD degree.

The researcher will become part of the department's academic environment and collaborate with other PhD students and research groups.

The position includes teaching responsibilities, participation in research collaboration with an international research environment, approximately 30 ECTS of doctoral courses and opportunities to present research at international conferences.

Deadline: 1 November 2026
#04 — PhD in AI, Education, Work & Professional Practices

Implications of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation for Education, Work and Professional Practices

This PhD scholarship investigates how artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies are transforming education and professional practice at both individual and collaborative levels.

The research may examine how AI changes work tasks, processes and professional practices, as well as how educational institutions prepare students to navigate and contribute to these technological changes.

Possible research perspectives include organisational theory, learning sciences, digital transformation, human-computer interaction and related fields.

Deadline: 19 October 2026
#05 — PhD in Wireless-Native Physical AI Systems

PhD in Wireless-Native Physical AI Systems

This project explores the integration of artificial intelligence with wireless sensing and communication for intelligent physical systems such as robots, vehicles and distributed autonomous agents.

The research will examine how radio signals and multimodal sensor observations can be combined to support perception, inference and timely physical action.

The PhD student will develop models and algorithms for the joint design of sensing, communication, inference and action. The work will also involve a robotic platform integrating multimodal sensors, wireless connectivity, edge intelligence and robotic actuation.

Deadline: 18 October 2026
#06 — PhD in Digital Twin Modelling & Electrolysis Systems

Digital Twin Modelling and Multi-Timescale Optimization of Electrolysis Systems

This PhD position is affiliated with the Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery (CAPeX) and the section for Applied Power Electronic Systems.

The researcher will join an interdisciplinary team working across electrolysers, Power-to-X systems, power electronics, control, digital twins and energy-system optimisation.

The project involves close collaboration with DTU, the University of Toronto, Stanford University and Utrecht University. Research visits to partner facilities may also form part of the position.

Deadline: 16 October 2026
#07 — PhD in School Emotions and Lived Experience

Not Liking School: Lived Experience of School Emotions

PhD students in this project are expected to develop and complete a doctoral thesis that meets international research standards within the relevant field.

The programme emphasises high-quality peer-reviewed research, academic dissemination and the development of a clear research profile demonstrating academic maturity.

Researchers are encouraged to participate in research environments beyond Aalborg University, including research stays and collaborations with national and international partners.

Deadline: 16 October 2026
#08 — PhD in Unsupervised Learning for Medical Image Analysis

One or More PhD Positions in Unsupervised Learning for Medical Image Analysis

The Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University provides an interdisciplinary research environment combining engineering, medicine and health sciences.

PhD fellows will work within an international research community with experienced supervisors, modern research facilities and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The research environment includes collaboration with hospitals, industry and public-sector organisations. During the PhD, candidates will develop advanced research competencies alongside transferable skills relevant to careers in academia, industry and the public sector.
