This PhD project will develop physics-informed digital twins for offshore wind turbines by integrating real-time monitoring data, advanced physics modelling and AI-assisted data analytics.

The research will investigate data integration, structural state reconstruction, fatigue assessment, remaining useful life prediction and predictive maintenance. Digital twin development and validation using laboratory experiments will also be undertaken.

The project is funded through the European Union Horizon Europe programme and forms part of a large international research programme involving universities, research institutes and industrial partners across Europe.

Implementation of Innovative Telemetric Technology Towards Carbon-Neutral and Safe Grain Storage in the UK

This interdisciplinary project sits at the intersection of bioengineering, heat and mass transfer, predictive modelling, postharvest systems engineering and applied microbiology.

The project addresses the need for energy-efficient grain storage solutions in the context of climate change and Net Zero commitments. It will integrate thermal dynamics, moisture migration modelling and real-time telemetric sensing.

The research aims to develop an integrated engineering and biological modelling framework for carbon-efficient grain storage. It will combine heat and moisture transfer modelling, prediction of fungal growth and Ochratoxin A risk, and optimisation of in-situ robotic sensing technology.

The studentship is funded by the EPSRC Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA), providing Home tuition fees and a £24,500 annual stipend. The project is delivered in partnership with Crover Ltd, which contributes financial support, engineering co-supervision and technology integration expertise.

Ubiquitous Cognitive Navigation with AI Based Systems PhD

This PhD project aims to develop resilient Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems for autonomous transport, addressing challenges associated with satellite-dependent navigation.

Current satellite-dependent navigation can be vulnerable to interference, jamming and signal degradation. The project will investigate the use of artificial intelligence, multi-sensor fusion and cognitive systems to develop robust navigation architectures.

The research will design a smart cognitive navigation framework that integrates information from different sensors and learns to make decisions autonomously. It will use signals from radio systems and internal sensors to maintain accurate PNT even when satellite signals are weak or unavailable.
