This is achieved through engaging in research, providing education based on research findings, delivering services to the public sector, and fostering collaborative knowledge-sharing endeavors. AAU prepares students for the future, emphasizing a dynamic and transformative partnership with the surrounding community as the foundation for its activities.
PhD Project Description
The position relates to the "Electro-Fuels" research program, and the Postdoc will be placed in the "Thermal Engineering" section.
The research falls under CAPeX, a 13-year, 300 MDKK "Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery" funded by various foundations and hosted by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and co-hosted by Aalborg University (AAU). CAPeX brings together experts from multiple Danish universities and international partners to create a pioneering center focused on P2X. More information on CAPeX research themes, organization, and other available PhD and postdoc positions can be found at http://www.capex-p2x.com.
This project focuses on solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology, which offers exceptional efficiencies but is susceptible to degradation at high current densities. Experimental results indicate that overlaying a constant current with an alternating one (AC:DC) can significantly extend cell lifetimes, expediting the transition to more efficient technologies. The project involves building a model of SOEC cells to gain fundamental understanding of the processes that increase their lifetime. This will contribute to the development of a multi-scale model, spanning from materials to systems, in collaboration with a team of experts working on different technologies. The goal is to predict the optimal operating conditions, both technically and economically, for a system utilizing the AC:DC mode of operation.
PhD Requirements
The applicant must provide and upload a proper project description, which describes the applicants initial thoughts and ideas related to the specific project applied for. This includes a brief state-of-the-art(including short list of references), a time schedule and how the applicant intends to shed light on the project objectives. The project description should have a length of not more than 4-5 pages.
Moreover, knowledge of materials science through university level courses or project work is preferred. Furthermore, the candidate should be highly motivated and willing to work in a team. Good communication skills in both spoken and written English are requirements
