About the Scholarship/ and University
The University of Canterbury is New Zealand’s second oldest university. It was founded in 1873 as Canterbury College, the first constituent college of the University of New Zealand. Its original campus was in the Christchurch Central City, but in 1961 it became an independent university and began moving out of its original neo-gothic buildings, which were repurposed as the Christchurch Arts Centre.

The funds for this scholarship are provided by the income from a bequest made in 1951 by Isabel Evelyn Spencer Watson to the University of New Zealand for the establishment and maintenance of a scholarship as a memorial to her nephew, Clement Gordon Watson. This scholarship is to enable the holder study questions of international relationships or social and economic conditions, at Masters or PhD level. The scholarship is tenable overseas.

Requirements
To be considered for awards, applicants must hold an honours degree, or a degree in Theology, of a university in New Zealand

Awards/ Grants

The scholarships awards are NZ$12,000 per annum for tenure 3 years.
