University Summer Courses Scholarships for Foreign Students in Germany 2020

About the Scholarship/ and University
The German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD is the largest German support organisation in the field of international academic cooperation. This organisation is a private, federally funded and state-fund, self-governing national agency of the institutions of higher education in Germany, representing hundreds of German higher education institutions.

DAAD is inviting international students to apply University Summer Courses. The courses are carried out for at least 18 teaching days with 5 days maximum per week, excluding days of arrival and departure. This course involves with a minimum of 25 hours of teaching a week. This program aims to help students and graduates improve their knowledge of German (general language, special language) and their cultural knowledge of the country.

Requirements

To be eligible in applying this summer courses, (1) The grant holder must be at least 18 years old when he/she starts the funded stay; (2) Applicants must be registered at a university of one of the programme-related countries (except Germany) at the time of application as well as during the funded stay; (3) A scholarship holder my only be considered once in any three consecutive years for a DAAD University Summer Course Grant; (4) Applicants must be able to follow lectures in German and collaborate in teams; (5) Proof of German language skills must be provided with the application; (6) The language certificate for the required minimum language should be no more than one year old, and language certificate from B2 or TDN4 in all examined sections may be older than one year; (7) The following language certificates can be accepted: onset-Deutsch, TestDaF, Goethe Institute-Nachweis, DSD, DSH, telc Deutsch, OSD-Zertifikat; (8) In principle, applicants must provide proof of a minimum language level of A2.

Awards/ Grants

One-off scholarship payment of 950 euros; scholarship holders from “Least Developed Countries” receive a scholarship of 1,125 euros. Payment of a country-specific travel allowance (exception: Western Europe). Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover.
 
Application Process
The application procedure occurs online through the DAAD Portal. Application documents such as certificates, proof of credit, certifications and translations may be submitted in non-certified form. The DAAD Head Office in Bonn reserves the right to also request certified copies of the submitted documents. Documents to be uploaded to the DAAD Portal:
  • Online application form.
  • Full curriculum vitae in tabular form (in German).
  • Letter of motivation (in German).
  • Copy of school leaving certificate (for Bachelor students) or Bachelor degree certificate with final grade(s) (for Master students), if available (with German or English translation).
  • Proof of credits of the last two years (in German or in English).
Other documents you think might be of relevance to your application with German or English translation, if applicable (e.g. certificates of employment, proof of placements). In addition students with certificates from the first year of higher education are also eligible to apply.
