PhD student position in Stability assessment of converter-dominated power systems

This project receives funding from the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) and will be executed in close collaboration with pertinent industry stakeholders, including Hitachi Energy Research and Svenska Kraftnät (the Swedish transmission system operator). The project encompasses an extensive array of current and critical subjects pertaining to power systems predominantly influenced by converters, encompassing both theoretical and experimental aspects.


PhD Project Description


Your primary duty as a Ph.D. student is to actively pursue your doctoral studies. It is anticipated that you will operate as an autonomous researcher, taking charge of cultivating your scientific expertise and competencies. Furthermore, you will be responsible for disseminating the findings of your research through presentations and scientific publications. The role encompasses a combination of theoretical modeling and experimental components. The Ph.D. position has a defined duration of 5 years and typically includes departmental responsibilities, accounting for 15-20% of your workload, which may involve serving as a lab assistant and leading exercises for various courses.

You are expected to complete a licentiate thesis within 2-3 years and successfully defend your doctoral thesis within 5 years.

Qualification


The prospective candidate should hold a Master's Degree or its equivalent in electrical engineering, with a specialization in power systems and power electronics. Collaborative aptitude is essential, as is the capacity to address a range of both personal and academic matters. Proficiency in English, particularly in writing and communication, is mandatory. Proficiency in teaching in Swedish is considered advantageous.

This role necessitates effective verbal and written communication abilities in English. For those whose native language is not Swedish, Chalmers provides Swedish language courses as a resource.
