Protecting bird species by developing more complex forests

Old-green forests provide sanctuary for the birds (image is downloaded from upload.wikimedia.org)
Researchers from the Oregon State University have discovered a new association between bird species to old-forests. Based on their findings, the birds which has been affected by the rising temperature of global warming are saved by the presence of large trees in old-forest. The study has been published in journals of Diversity and Distributions.

AeglePhysics.com – Birds are one of the animals which spend of their life mostly in the trees. They just do not establish their nest in the trees, but also trees are the place to them for mating. In an old forest, there are large trees with various of species. This diversity sometimes is suitable for certain birds of species, and somehow it is not suitable for certain species of animals. Therefore, with the increasing level of Earth’s temperature, certain species of trees provide sanctuary for the birds and many of them use that as a shelter.

The global warming affects the birds’ life directly. One of the effect is the increasing temperature which happens all the time. The researchers observed 13 species of birds which have been monitoring by the Geological Institutions of Breeding Bird Survey of the United States for every year. Both of the institutions have been observing the same species of birds particularly which are native in North America. Based on their observation, there were two species of birds from their chosen species which have been affected by the increasing level of temperatures. They were Wilson’s warbler and hermit warbler with stable populations in old-forest habitats. The others of the birds were increasing in term of population when the researchers observed them.

According to the study conducted by C. John Ralph in 1985, there was positive effect related to the bird abundance and diversities with various vegetation measures. It means, the more complex the forest, the more diverted the vegetation, and mostly these feature occur in old-forests which has complex bio-diversity. The complex vegetation indicates that the habitats provide everything that is needed by the birds for their life, for instance, food, nests, protection, and many more.

To be conclude, establishing the populations of birds’ species can be conducted by artificial sanctuary. And this study shows that, reforestation is not effective to help the birds population. We also need to increase the biodiversity in the forests in order to save the birds.
