English for Presentation: How to open a presentation

Presentation is one of the most common activities in the professional worlds. The activity of presenting can be seen as a formal meeting to not only propose idea, but also to provide formal reports that are held frequently. In other place, for instance in academia, academic activity often uses presentation as one of the formal educational activities, done by the lecturers, students, and even more the staffs. Now, the main question is, how are we going to be a good presenter? do you think it is really important to show how good our public speaking is?

It is important to note that, presentation aims to deliver our thoughts in a formal way. So, performance is not about so that the presenter is rewarded, just like a competition. It should have been done with the purpose of to make the audiences can understand our ideas. Thus, selecting the suitable words, pausing in some moment, illustrating with persuasive figures are among the crucial things. In this post, one of the ways is to open the presentation. In overall, a presentation can be opened just like:
  • Welcome the audience, it can be said like, 
Hello, Good morning, we would like to welcome you to our city to join our international conference. First of all, let me thank you all for coming here today.

Hello, Good morning, I am happy that so many of you could make it today 

  • Introduce yourself/ your team, such as
Let me introduce our team. I on behalf of the team, ...

I am here to represent my team that are (naming each of the teammembers) 

  • Saying what you want to say, for instance,
As you can see on the screen, our topic/ talk today is about ...

What I would like to talk to all of you today is ... 

  • Explain what the topic is about, like, 
For the next few minutes, our talk will be particularly relevant to ...
