PhD student position in Principled Application Security

The Ph.D. candidate will become a part of a prominent team of researchers specializing in cybersecurity and privacy within the Chalmers Security Lab. In contemporary computing systems, software frequently serves as the primary source of vulnerabilities. Our emphasis on enhancing software security is directed at developing systematic security measures that offer robust defense against broad categories of cyberattacks.

PhD Project Description

The Ph.D. candidates will be integrated into one of our ambitious projects, which include:

  • WebSec: Ensuring the security of web-driven systems, conducted in collaboration with Uppsala University and supported by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).
  • WASP NEST CyberSecIT: A framework project, in partnership with KTH and UmeÃ¥ University, focused on exploring the security and privacy aspects of IoT applications, particularly in software. NESTs represent flagship projects within the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), offering Ph.D. students the advantages of the WASP graduate school.
  • VR project centered on the application of programming language-based, SMT solving, and symbolic execution techniques for identifying vulnerabilities and enhancing the security of software systems through construction.

The supervision of Ph.D. students will be under the guidance of Professor Andrei Sabelfeld, who has received numerous awards from organizations such as ERC, SSF, Google, Amazon, and Facebook, in addition to being honored as Chalmers' PhD Supervisor of the Year.

Ph.D. positions typically span a five-year duration and encompass departmental responsibilities, primarily involving teaching duties, accounting for about 20 percent of the workload. The salary for this position aligns with Chalmers' standard agreement for Ph.D. student positions, commencing at 32,150 SEK per month before taxes.
