We are looking for a PhD student in Chemistry

PhD Project

The doctoral candidate will actively engage in a research endeavor centered around wastewater-based epidemiology, investigating the presence of illegal drugs and environmental contaminants through the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry combined with chromatography. The project will involve developing analytical techniques for targeted, suspected, and non-targeted analyses of wastewater samples. Additional responsibilities encompass establishing a systematic laboratory workflow that incorporates pertinent information, planning and executing field sampling, maintaining analytical instruments, performing chemical analyses, analyzing data, and disseminating the findings.

As a PhD student, the majority of your time is dedicated to pursuing doctoral studies and participating in relevant research projects. There may also be opportunities for teaching or fulfilling departmental responsibilities, although these duties will not exceed 20% of a full-time workload.

PhD Qualification

To be eligible for this position, you should possess a Master's degree in Chemistry or have completed coursework equivalent to at least 240 credits, with a minimum of 60 credits in advanced Chemistry courses. Alternatively, if you have acquired equivalent knowledge through alternative means, that would also be considered.

The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of organic analytical chemistry and practical experience in chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis. Familiarity with organic sample preparation and extraction techniques would be advantageous. Additionally, proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python for data processing and analysis would be highly beneficial.

Creativity, flexibility, and a strong analytical mindset are important qualities for the successful candidate, along with a solid theoretical foundation. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is a mandatory requirement. The selection criteria also include assessing interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and the overall aptitude and suitability required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role efficiently.

PhD Benefits

The salary of PhD students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
