Project Description
This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE). WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden's foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.
Within the WISE program, you will be a part of the WISE Graduate School, an ambitious nationwide program of seminars, course, research visits, and other activities to promote a strong multidisciplinary and international network between PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and industry.
The aim of this project is to develop sustainable battery based on green battery technology by discovering and synthesizing sustainable electrode materials. The PhD student will have the opportunity to learn and work on the full value chain for the development of sustainable energy storage system from key materials to the final cell development including:
- The discovery and synthesis of sustainable materials
- Design new battery and new manufacturing method
- Advanced characterizations
- Development of high-performance and sustainable rechargeable battery
Bein part of this collaborative project, you will be involved in a multidisciplinary environment and working with international researchers.
Major Responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies related to the project. You need to work in different labs and develop hands-on skill. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing.
In addition, 10 percent of your time will be dedicated to departmental duties, especially teaching on the undergraduate level.
Qualifications
To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in a relevant field such as chemistry and materials science. Previous experience in energy storage, organic synthesis, or materials characterization is a merit. To be successful, you also need to be highly motivated, have a problem-solving attitude and enjoy working closely together with others in a large project. In addition, you need to have good communicative skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
