World greatest inventions have been started by the beginning of knowledge. Ever since that era, human was trying to understand something, instead of solved the issue. Thus, lots of discoveries were found accidentally, such as penicillin by Alexander Flemming. Now, have you ever wondered that in the future, certain discoveries would have made the world into different shape?
Self-Repairing Material
The world of materials science has been widely considered as one of the fastest-grown field. From the vehicle transportation which is macro-material to quantum-sized material. Future prospect focuses on how to establish renewable material which is organic and biodegradable, but it is not limited to that. Imagine how useful a self-repairing material would be. It could be used in parts for cars, ship, air- and spacecraft, and also the building. This condition would help us to reduce the costs of rebuilding and recovery due to human-error accidents as well as natural disasters. On the other hand, medical implants that break inside a human body could simply heal themselves.
Scientists at the University of Alicante have developed a flexible, transparent resin, which is even able to heal itself underwater, retaining its original shape in the process.
Microbe Fingerprints
Due to pandemic COVID-19, people are terrifying due to the infection which can lead to death. Before the virus, microbiome such as tuberculosis that cause the TBC disease is considered as lethal. But, can you imagine if certain bacteria could have helped us to identify human? Crimes could be identified from microbes in the air, we all have bacteria living on us, and the most unique thing about this is the various combination among human being. University of Oregon scientists told 11 people apart simply by sampling the air around them.
Lab-grown Kidney Cells
Stem cell has been developed into certain aspect which can help patients to cure their diseases. One of them is the kidney failure. In the future, lab-grown kidneys suitable for transplants are some of the plans that have been developed. Scientists at Murdoch Children's Research Institute have grown a kidney-like structure from stem cells. It could be used for testing drugs, researching diseases and supplying kidney cells for medical treatments.
HIV Detector
Disease early detection system is a quite interesting method in the field of medicine. However, it is very challenging due to the size of virus. A fast, cheap way of diagnosing virus, such as HIV (autoimmune diseases) and rheumatoid arthritis has been developed at the University of Montreal. The machine that is able to recognise DNA of a specific antibody within five minutes would shape human perspective about medical prevention system.
Migraine Breakthrough
Have you ever suffered a migraine? and the location of the ache is changing from one area to another area? Abnormal activation of a cluster of brain cells called trigeminovascular system is believed to be responsible for causing migraines. The cluster relays sensory information, including pain signals, but which part of the nervous system triggered it was unknown. Now, an international team has treated migraines in rats by targeting cells deep inside the brain. The scientists used a compound to block PAC1 - a receptor protein - but so far it has only been applied directly to the brain, rather than intravenously.
