Writing Research Proposal: Flowchart of Writing

Let's assume that we are in the stage, by which the research topic has been decided. Thus, we are formulating the research question that is going to be asked within the topic. For instance, we would like to find out what is the relationship of someone in performing plagiarism in addition to achieve political power and objectives in the selection of rector/ head of program in one university. The problem statement is:

Given that the requirement for being a rector of an university needs to publish scientific articles, then lecturers tend to publish their findings randomly without concerning the originality of the manuscript

Then, the research questions are:

  • How does a lecturer publish their findings?
  • Is it possible that a lecturer does not know about the process of publishing scientific articles?
  • How does a lecturer distinguish originality of his research?
As a result, the title can be formulated into:

The aspect of originality research in university in improving the educational quality of a lecturer

Mistakes in Writing

The first step that many of the unexperienced writer is by typing the title exactly in the beginning of word document. Writing is not about following the title, and it is about how we formulate the title. This also applies in writing a research proposal for any types (minor thesis for undergraduate, thesis and dissertation for postgraduate) as well as scientific publication. The steps in writing scientific papers are begun by drafting the methods and ended by formulating the title. To be precise, the following flowchart displays the outline:

Finding a suitable methods and understanding the methodologies of our research are two essential aspects in writing research proposal. Before we turn on our laptop to start writing, ask ourselves about these questions:
  • Have you found your methodologies?
  • How do you decide your methods?
  • What are the samples? subjects? or the materials?
  • How many research questions do you want to propose?
  • Was it hypothetical or it was only a fact that is not needed to be proven?
  • Do you expect a significant results?
  • Do you only try to investigate? or any other purposes?
Then, start your draft from the section of Methods or in Chapter 3, leave the title page blank because we are not going to be there yet.
