University of Helsinki Scholarships Program for Non-EU/EEA Students in Finland Intake 2020

About the Scholarship/ and University
The University of Helsinki is a university located in the capital city of Finland, Helsinki, and it was established in modern days in 1829. However, the university itself was founded in the city of Turku in 1640 as the Royal Academy of Abo, which was part of the Swedish Empire. It is one of the most prestigious university as well as the largest and oldest in Finland.

The University of Helsinki offers scholarships for International students. These scholarships are intended for excellent students from outside the EU/ EEA and Switzerland who want to complete a Master’s programme at the University of Helsinki.

Requirements
All candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • You are eligible for the Master’s programme at the University of Helsinki
  • You are liable for tuition fees: Citizens of non-EU/ EEA countries who do not have permanent residence status in the EU/ EEA area are liable for tuition fees.   • You meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for Finland
  • You have obtained excellent results in your previous studies and can prove this in your application
Awards/ Grants
There are two types of scholarships that can be awarded to the successful applicants:
  • Fully funded grant (including tuition fee + 10,000 EUR)
  • Full tuition fee grant
Tuition fees range from 13,000 to 18,000 euros. The duration of the scholarship is two years. For all scholarships, students are required to study full time (earn at least 55 ECTS per year) to fulfil the requirements of the scholarship. After the first study year, the progress of your studies will be checked and, depending on your progress, the scholarship will be continued.

Application Process

To apply scholarships, you must submit your application as master students in the University of Helsinki. There are four main steps before you submit your scholarship applications. Firstly, find the Master’s programme you want to apply to through the Degree Finder. Next, see the instruction on how to apply to the Master’s programme and prepare the required documents to be attached. Then, apply for the scholarship at the same application form used to apply to the Master’s programme. Lastly, submit all the required attachments for both applications.
