So, what are the findings?
It turns out that the addiction is started when our part of brain is activated. And the researchers found that the activation of certain receptors could have solved this problem. Therefore, they implemented this hypothesis in rats and found that the animals were induced to drink less.
Scientifically speaking, the researchers stated that the GPR139 receptor is the key role of some points, and one of them is signaling process. For instance, the GPR139 receptor is linked to mental disorders and those are including depression, schizophrenia, and the last but not least is drug-induced psychosis.
So, it means that the part of our brain that is related to the addiction is this GPR139 receptor. In our brain, this receptor is mainly found in the Habenula. Interestingly, this part of brain is the same part that is related to decision-making process, so it is influenced by the dopamine and serotonin when being released. Habenula is also a motor behavior machine indicating in feeling pain, stress, and anxiety.
