This study was examined by researchers from Stanford University School of Medicine, and it was published in the Journal of Pediatrics. Interestingly, this study also suggested about not only about the association between congenital heart defect and healthy mothers with high level of blood sugar. Earlier high level of glucose occurs in the pregnant mother significantly. By the time the mother is pregnant, her desire to eat more is increasing quite much. As a result, mothers intend to eat lots of food or dishes, and sometimes they are thirsty in consuming food that contains higher sugar.

According to the statement of James Priest MD posted in EurekAlert, which is an assistant professor of pediatric cardiology, stated that the congenital heart disease of babies was born from healthy mother. Furthermore, they found that women who don’t already have diabetes or develop diabetes during pregnancy will affect the development of their fetus during the first trimester of pregnancy.
So, how can the mothers increase the level of sugar blood in early pregnancy? The author’s opinion is about their appetite. The first trimester is the crucial stage for pregnant mother’s appetite. As husbands, we must inform our wives about this crucial stage.

Out of the curiosity, how can the scientists stated that higher level of blood glucose could increase the potential of heart-defect risk for unborn baby? Over than 19,000 pairs of mothers, and their babies which were born between 2009 and 2014 were involved so that the researchers collected their medical record. The researchers examined their details about their prenatal health conditions, including the blood test results and any cardiac diagnose after birth for the baby. The data shows interesting point that over 800 infants were diagnosed with congenital heart diseases.

The researchers also found the relationship between the blood glucose levels and the potential risks of heart-defect. They stated that every increase of 10 milligrams per deciliter in blood glucose levels in the early stage of pregnancy could level up the risk of congenital heart defect for 8 percent. The more you eat sweet foods, the more risk you have.
