Aegle Pyhsics - One of the advantageous of learning new language is the opportunity of perceiving new point of view from certain source information. For instance, in Indonesia, people are more likely to speak in their local language – despite of Bahasa, they prefer to speak their ethnical language. Unlike people from other countries in South-East Asia, Indonesian consider other international language as the third language after Bahasa, local language respectively.
There are many reasons behind the unwillingness of using another international language such as English, France, Russian, Arabic, Chinese or etc., but one thing that is certain is this unwillingness could congest the society in gaining development particularly in aspect of science and knowledge, and socio-cultural. One of the common reason is the cost to learn new language which is expensive, while the other reason is when their parent thinks that the importance of preserve our own culture.
Learning language provide us the ability to understand certain knowledge that is not produced by our society. For instance, the robotic development is well developed in Japan which actually forces us to understand the Japanese language in order to achieve comprehensive knowledge. On the other hand, learning or studying requires discussion implying to the demand of active participation during the studying or learning. Subsequently, dual-languages skill is importantly needed by the students in gaining the knowledge.
But, why most people still think learning two languages could give children stressful and depression time which could lead to the academic reports?
Although some of the parents might have agreed with the possibility of significant influences to the children, researchers from Iowa State University, in the United States, suggested different perspective based on their study. They have found that the dual-languages ability actually provides excellent academic merit. Their study involved 825 children and the data have been collected since 2009.
According to their study which is published in journal of early childhood research quarterly, they found that the children who have the ability of speaking two languages eventually outperformed their growth providing excellent academic result. Compared to the students which speak limited to one language, the dual-languages children’s growth is more superior than limited-speaking-one-language students. But why this could be happening?
Reported by the EurekAlert.org, Choi, an assistant professor of human development and family studies, stated that “when they have realized they are able to understand the new language, they started to understand more, more and more. This implies to their new skill of language helps them to understand better and better”.
To be conclude, the ability of understanding new language will broaden our perspectives and understanding about something. Furthermore, as soon as a person achieves this technique, they will improve faster and higher, and regarding the academic merit, this will affect it significantly.
