Medical Ethics in Disclosing the Results of Diagnose

Revealing the results of diagnose to the family of the patients is important during the medical treatment. It does not only help the relatives to prepare but also to check every symptom which could occurred for the family members. On the other hand, disclosure will help the medical officer to prevent any symptom which can help to improve the medical diagnosis pathway.

The process of finding symptom will dictate the continuous step during the treatment. Medical diagnosis in several countries are different depending on the impact to the patients. Doctor cannot apply the same method of diagnosis before they check the symptom occurred to the body of the patients. For example, the medical team will do multiple symptom checker for patients which are infected by the Ebola virus than they who have flu. This is important because it affects not only for the patient but also to the medical officers who do the diagnosis.

Therefore, we must define what is the meaning of diagnosis and medical diagnosis. Diagnosis is the act for finding and checking every symptom which occurred for the body of the patients in addition to investigate the health issues either happened because of virus, bacteria or others. Medical diagnosis can inform, educate and encourage society to be aware of diseases so they can do prevention or first aid. Therefore, defining symptom for patients will increase the healthy aspects of many people.

For example, one of the most difficult in checking the symptom of autism. According to the virtua.org, finding the symptom of autism needs long of duration which takes around up to six months. This is important because the doctor must observe the development and behavior of the children. However, the ethical thing happened is the children themselves will feel anxious since there is a person who observes them. On the other hand, it also affects the emotional feeling of the parents if the patients are diagnosed autism. Therefore, medical symptom checker sometimes feels unable to inform the relatives about the truth happened.

John Harrison delivered a lecture which is written by Annemarie Jutel of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in her journal stated that the duty of doctors is only diagnosing and giving the prescription which is needed for the patients unless they request the information about the disease. Actually, for many people this statement is important because of it can affect the psychological aspect of a person. Technically speaking, this subject seems very close to personality disturbance.

Therefore, many sociologists think truth-lies-telling in medical issue must be considered as something crucial for the clinical steps. An illustration of this can be seen in the differences of treatment in several countries around the world. In Europe, the doctors or popular as the name of General Practitioner must conduct several observations not only for the patients themselves but also to their relatives. While in developing countries there is no intense communication between doctors and patients unless they know each other.

With this social segregation, revealing information in medical treatments would be decreasing for developing countries. Since, the convenience aspect in understanding diseases is essential for these society, people are more likely to be diagnosed by others than a medical officer. Overall, there must be a standard procedure for every disease which must be informed to the society. However, since it affects the sociological and psychological aspect, there must be frequently education provided by the medical institution in motivating the patients and their relatives.
